It is such a huge event that even in the church, we struggle to grasp it, so we shrink it down to fit our small understanding. The world turns it into fluffy rabbits and chocolate eggs, which, I suppose, don’t even begin to point in the right direction. The Christian Church has made Easter the source of its members’ present spiritual life: Jesus is alive today, so I can have a personal relationship with Him. That’s true; it’s wonderful—but it is not the full truth of Easter. It has also made it the foundation of future hope: Jesus’ resurrection proves that there is life beyond the grave. That’s true; it’s essential—but when you’ve climbed that small hill, you suddenly realise you’re still miles away from the destination. Easter isn’t just about you and me, our present spiritual experience, or our hope beyond the grave. Easter is the beginning of God’s new world. The Greatest Win of Your Life: Don’t Run the Wrong Race
The Crisis of ‘We’ Presented by: Pr. Vitalii Shevchenko "7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." Revelation 12:7-9 The war that once began in heaven has now come down to earth—but this is not a war of tanks and guns, nor a war of physical strength. It is a war for the mind, a war over truth and meaning. Today, through the internet and the constant flow of information, humanity has entered a new kind of conflict—cognitive warfare—a battle to shape how people think. At its core, this war targets three simple but fundamental questions every person asks: Who am I? Why am I here? And where do I come from? Yet alongside these comes another question just as important: Who are "we"? Because we don’t live in isolation—we belong to something. For example, we say, “We are Seventh-day Adventists.” But in this war for the mind, the first thing that gets attacked is this very sense of “we.” So today, we step back to ask again: Who are we—and where are we going? The Crisis of ‘We’
"Jesus is Enough: Christ Centred Living in a Distracted World" Presented by: Peter Miller When Paul wrote to the Colossians from a prison cell in Rome, he was addressing a small Christian community shaped—and challenged—by a wide range of spiritual ideas within a predominantly pagan culture. In many ways, this mirrors our own context today. Although Christianity shaped New Zealand’s early history and remains our largest religious tradition, it is in decline, with over half the population now identifying with no religion. Māori spirituality continues to hold deep cultural significance, while Sikhism, Islam, and Hinduism are the fastest growing religions, largely through immigration. Even within Christianity, growth is limited to those identifying simply as “Christian,” reflecting a move away from traditional denominations, with groups such as Seventh day Adventists also experiencing slight decline. Paul’s message to the Colossians—and to us—can be summed up in three powerful words: “Jesus is enough.” That is the heart of this sermon, and my prayer is that you will be encouraged and blessed as we reflect on this truth together. Reach Out to Jesus
"The Seventh-day Adventist Church: One Hundred Years Ahead" Presented by: Pr. Vitalii Shevchenko "After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues…" Revelation 7:9 Officially, the Seventh-day Adventist Church insists that no one knows the day or the hour of the Second Coming of Christ and that date-setting is wrong. Yet for nearly 180 years, our preaching has often sounded as if the date is almost known and Jesus is about to show up. Ellen G. White wrote, “The coming of the Lord is nearer than when we first believed,” and that urgency has been repeated so often that it has become part of our official church language. Every generation has been told the end is near. Every generation has assumed it might not grow old. No need for long-term planning, education, getting married, or raising children. And whenever a crisis breaks out — war, political instability, economic collapse, natural disasters — the level of anxiety skyrockets. Sermons grow hotter. Prophecy charts reappear. It exposes a visible disjoint: officially, we claim uncertainty; emotionally, we project immediacy. We reject timelines, yet we continually speak as if time is about to run out. This Sabbath, I invite you to set aside the urgency, cool down the anxiety, and think a hundred years forward. What would the Seventh-day Adventist Church need to become? Where would it need to go to possibly fulfil its purpose as a “remnant” of all nations, if we choose to carry out this solemn responsibility? Pr.
